I miss you.
Lying here in my bed
on the other side of the world
I miss you.
You know you drove me crazy
with your selfish attitude
and casual acceptance
of all I offered.
And your infrequent phone calls
and unreliability
(that caused me such distraction)
were renowned to all we knew.
But all I can remember
are the nights you stayed awake
to listen to me cry
and offer your affection.
And the way you’d hold my hand
unthinking in your gentleness
aware only of my pain
and your need to ease it.
I wish you were here now
to hold me as I sleep
the way you have a thousand times before.

Yes, I miss you.
